Super Bowl Super Sliders
I LOVE FOOTBALL! What can I say? I came from a football loving family. On Sunday afternoons, my dad and two brothers watched football every week. By watching and listening, I learned the rules of the game, and I chose my favorite teams. The Green Bay Packers played in the first Super Bowl 55 years ago - I was in high school and I remember it so well. Now I guess I’m telling my age!
Super Bowl, even if you are not a football fan, has become a big celebration, although this year we’re celebrating in much smaller groups. Besides the game, the ads for products during the breaks are something to remember and the half-time show is always amazing. Everyone seems to be watching!! People all over the country have parties in their homes - it’s like an indoor, national tailgating party. Of course, food is the focus at these parties.
This recipe came to me years ago from a co-worker when I was working at a doctor’s office. The first day I went to work there, we immediately bonded and we have remained friends to this day. Over the years we have traded many recipes, and this is one of my favorites.
These party sandwiches are best served warm, when the cheese is gooey and the buns are buttery and toasty. Treat yourself and your guests to these for your Super Bowl celebration. TOUCHDOWN!
Super Bowl Super Sliders
Yield:
24 sandwiches
Prep Time:
20-25 minutes
Cook Time:
20 minutes
Total Time:
45 minutes
Ingredients:
¾ cup salted butter (melted)
1½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1½ teaspoons yellow mustard
1½ teaspoons poppy seeds
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
24 mini sandwich rolls
½ pound deli ham (thinly sliced)
½ pound deli turkey (thinly sliced)
½ pound Swiss cheese (thinly sliced)
½ pound pepper jack cheese (thinly sliced)
Directions:
Melt the butter in a small glass bowl in the microwave.
Add the dried minced onion. (If you do not have dried minced onion, use a small fresh onion, minced)
Add the mustard, Worcestershire sauce and poppy seeds. Stir to combine.
Slice the rolls in half horizontally, and then separate them into individual rolls. Remove the tops and lay aside while you fill them with the ham or turkey and cheese. Replace the top of the roll, and arrange them in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
Now, using a pastry brush, spread the butter mixture over the rolls to coat the tops and sides of each.
Place in a 350°F degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes until the rolls are toasted and cheese is melting and gooey.
Cut apart into individual sandwiches. Serve while still warm.
Tips and Tricks:
I have found it’s easier to separate the rolls and fill with the meat and cheese before baking. Then they will come apart easily. Also, these would be delicious with my Sweet Hot Pickles!
