Hi, I’m Becky and I want to welcome you to my recipe blog. I am a hometown cook that has lived my whole life in the Louisville, Kentucky metro area which is locally referred to as Kentuckiana. It’s a unique place that is known as the gateway to the south, where Southern Indiana and the city of Louisville, Kentucky are divided by the great Ohio River.
For hundreds of years, the river was like a highway bringing many people from far and wide to this beautiful city. In doing so, it created a rich set of culinary influences and traditions. It’s the land of burgoo, steamboats, Muhammad Ali, Derby, fleur-de-lis, hot browns, fried chicken, mint juleps, Bourbon and Slugger bats. It was also home to one of the largest concentrations of German immigrants in the US, which happens to be my family heritage. I am lucky to have inherited the recipes and kitchen skills from a long line of nurturing German women.
My love of making food started at a very young age. My first experience with a recipe was when I was in the fifth grade. I helped the lunch ladies prepare coconut cookies in the cafeteria. I asked how they were made, secretly hoping for another cookie, but instead I was given the recipe. I still have my copy, written in the scrawly penmanship of an eleven-year-old. Since that day, I realized that if I could get the recipe, I could make it over and over. It was the beginning of a life long journey for me.
Over the past 25 years, I have created my own food businesses including a catering company and a gourmet to go cafe. The catering company allowed me to feed thousands and hone my business skills, while the gourmet to-go cafe helped me build connections within the local community. Through these connections, I became a food columnist for a local publication for the past decade. The next chapter in life is for me to share my stories, experiences and love of food with all of you.
I hope you will go on this journey with me as I share my adventures past and present, creating simple homemade comfort food. It’s important to always remember to pause and reflect on what’s good in life. And above all, please remember that food is always better when it’s prepared with love.
Thank you for visiting my blog!
Love, Becky
